Reduced Fee Therapy

Affordable Therapy

50 minutes | $85 (HST included)

At Drice Psychotherapy, we believe that access mental health care and psychotherapy should be an easily accessible resource and available service for all. Unfortunately, the cost of therapy (especially in private practice) can prohibit the access to psychotherapy services for many people and can act as a barrier to seeking services. Because of these reasons, we strive to make our services as accessible as possible and ensure that finances do not become a barrier to receiving care.

We offer the option to meet with a Counselling Intern or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) for psychotherapy services at a lower cost for clients who may not have the financial resources or insurance. Our interns and qualifying therapists are closely supervised to ensure that you are receiving care that promotes professional standards of practice.

Our standard reduced fee rate is $85. However, we recognize that every client has a unique set of circumstances that requires different options. Because of this, please do not hesitate to inquire about our sliding scale options for more affordable therapy options. Although space is limited, we do have openings throughout the year.

Please note that our affordable therapy program is currently at capacity. We anticipate being able to welcome new clients in May 2024.

What is a Counselling Intern?

A Counselling Intern is a Master's level therapist-in-training who has completed the Counselling Interns at Drice Psychotherapy have had the privilege of already gaining clinical experience through their training facility (Saint Paul University Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre). So, they begin their externship at Drice Psychotherapy equipped with the knowledge, comfort and some confidence in the therapy room.

Counselling Interns are required to work under the weekly supervision of a CRPO Approved Clinical Supervisor and Registered Psychotherapist who meets the requirements to provide clinical supervision as part of the required training to complete their studies and become Registered Psychotherapists themselves. In order to provide insightful support to interns and practitioners requiring ongoing supervision, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) requires that a Clinical Supervisor have at least 5 years of extensive clinical experience, and to have completed over 1000 Direct Client Contact hours.

There are many advantages to seeking services from a Counselling Intern, like:

  • Enthusiasm! Interns are eager to apply their extensive education and skills.

  • Personalized Care: Interns tend to have smaller caseloads than novice professionals so your care may feel more personalized.

  • Availability: An intern’s availability can be more flexible, with some working evenings and weekends.

  • Supervised: Interns are closely supervised by an experienced professional.

  • Current Knowledge: As interns are currently completing their studies, they are up to date on the latest evidence-based practices.

  • Lower Cost Services: Interns' services are provided at a lower cost (sometimes free!)

"In the spirit of equity, therapy extends its reach to touch the lives of those who may have otherwise been left behind."

What is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)?

The College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO) assigns the designation of Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) to members who have met all the educational requirements and is qualified to practice the act of psychotherapy with ongoing clinical supervision. A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) has completed their training and is closely supervised by a Registered Psychotherapist as they work towards submitting the required hours to reach the next designation status and successfully complete their registration exam. 450 DCC hours are required to receive a designation as a Registered Psychotherapist and drop the Qualifying status. At Drice Psychotherapy, all of our RP (Qualifying) team members have completed at least 150 hours of Direct Client Contact. Meaning, they have previous clinical experience providing 1:1 psychotherapy to clients in a supervised training facility.

Affordable therapy is accessible therapy. Accessible therapy is affordable therapy.
